Some password-protected Sessions contain multimedia Java PowerPoint presentations narrated during the live onsite class. Your computer must have Java enabled and you must be using DSL or other fast internet connection--not dial-up--for the presentations to play properly. Mac requires OS 10.x on Safari for Java. NONE of these multimedia presentations can be downloaded. They must be viewed online.

This curriculum requires no prior knowledge of astrology. If you have studied Western astrology, that will be useful but not necessary.

Vedic astrology was developed, tested, and refined by Hindu sages over many milennia. It is relied upon in India to match couples for marriage, make business decisions, and even to augment medical/psychological diagnosis. It is a a science that has been continually improved. It has survived in India because it works.

Unlike Western astrology, which originally developed as Greek Hellenistic horoscopy from Vedic and Zoroastrian astronomical sciences, Jyotish is based on the true or sidereal astronomical sky. When Western astrology tells you that the Sun is in Aries, it is actually in the constellation of Pisces nearly 30 degrees away. That is because Western astrology uses a tropical zodiac (what the sky would look like if there had been no precession of the equinoxes, i.e. the sky 2000 years ago). But Vedic astrology recognizes that the human soul is a microcosm corresponding to the univeral macrocosm, and that the stars, constellations, and planets moving through them from our geocentric viewpoint can be read like a grand cypher for any event or form of life that manifests in time. Therefore Jyotish considers the true sidereal position of planets in the zodiac to be vital, as well as their relationship to specific stars and constellations, which are viewed as intelligible beings.

Vedic astrology is far more complex than Western. There are sixteen main divisional charts, plus forty-eight others, that can be derived from one basic horoscope. They are used for predicting influences on longevity, karma, family, children, career, and higher psycho-spiritual aspects. Hellenistic Greek horoscopy knew these as harmonics, but they are no longer used in modern Western astrology. In this program, Dr. Willa presents the complexities of Jyotish in simplified, organized steps. If you wish to study higher levels of Jyotish after completing the program, we will direct you to legitimate and reliable teachers. This program will give you the foundation necessary for advanced study.

Traditionally, Jyotishis learned their craft by apprenticing with a master doing tens of thousands of mathematical calculations. Today we use brilliant computer programs to crunch the numbers. These programs were developed by brilliant Vedic astrologers. The one we recommend is free. It was developed and continually improved by P.V.R.
